Alden Ravello Medallion Cap Toe Bluchers

Alden has such a remarkable ability to make footwear from across a gamut of designs and vibes that truly speak to me. This is the story of a pair of shoes that were not even remotely on my radar until I happened to pay Alden of Washington D.C. a visit. I have always enjoyed a nicely brogued model – in fact my first pair of higher quality shoes was inspired by my desire to find what I now know as a Wingtip Blucher. My wife refers to brogue shoes as “hole punch shoes”.

I had the opportunity to visit the Alden of Washington D.C. crew back in October 2024. While walking around the store and talking to Brian, I saw this model. It immediately caught my eye and my attention. Ravello Shell Cordovan and a lovely a sleek Brogue. It had me immediately. Much to my surprise, they had a 10.5C on hand – and I pretty much immediately knew that it was over.

For those of you who don’t live and bleed Alden. Ravello is a magnificent city on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, just south of Naples. It is known for its truly breathtaking views of one of the magical places on earth. This shade of Shell Cordovan lives up to this historical, magical place. It is a rich medium Brown shade with magnificent undertones of Red, creating a truly exquisite experience.

This shoe is a classic model, a Medallion Cap Toe Blucher, a take on Alden’s classic 908. A catalog shoe, which is a variant of this design, but offered around the Hampton Last. This variant of the Medallion Cap Toe Blucher is made around Alden’s sleeker Aberdeen last, providing a comfortable design that has a narrower toe box. Combined with this classic pattern, makes a very nice shoe design. As stated, this Medallion Cap Toe Blucher is made out of Horween’s exclusive to Alden Ravello Shell Cordovan – which takes any model to the next level. The beauty of the Ravello is paired with Alden’s always amazing Antique Edges, which adorn an Oil Soaked outsole. This dress Blucher has a flat welt that goes all the way around the shoe, creating a well balanced aesthetic.
