Alden White Calfskin Boat Shoe
Over the past few years, I have really come to appreciate the comfort, simplicity, and styling of the classic American boat shoe. To that extent, I have custom ordered a decent number of special makeups from Rancourt out of Horween’s Shell Cordovan.
Through my over ten years of following Alden now, I thought that I had seen most of what Alden has offered through the years, from old Monkey boots to Tassel Loafers for women to even shoes for boys. However, I had never heard of their Offshore Collection. One of my good friends found these and new that I would be the perfect owner of them, given my affinity for both boat shoes and of course, Aldens. I candidly have surprisingly little information about these shoes, as I do not have the box and I there really isn’t much information labeled on the shoes and online searching does reveal a few results, but not much.
These Boat Shoes are made out of a Bone White Calfskin upper and features white Raw Hide laces. The leather going along the throat of the collar is actually a separate piece from the laces and appear to be made out of the same material as the upper. These Boat Shoes feature an Unlined upper for superior fit and comfort. These shoes feature a pure white custom Outsole featuring Alden’s old 4A’s logo, which has been used for a lot of their more orthopedic footwear for years. They feature a heel pad with the “One Design Alden Offshore” moniker.
Overall, these are a really cool piece of Alden’s history and will make a nice, casual addition to any collection.
To Whom It May Concern:
Are these available in size 12B?
Also, can you recommend a good shoe shiner in San Diego who can handle cordovan? The guy to whom I’ve been taking my calfskin shoes does a good job but has basically effed up my Alden cordovans. I think they’re salvageable but I want to scream.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Rod Hatley

Hey Rod,
Unfortunately, these shoes are an Old Stock shoe and was likely made by Alden over 20 years ago. In my over ten years of actively shopping and tracking Alden, I have never seen a model that resembles this.
I am sorry to hear about your Shoe Shine woes! I honestly just shine my shoes myself, so I am not the best recommender of shiners. I would think that some of the most reputable cobblers would have the knowledge to properly shine or restore Shell Cordovan.
I really like Ah One and Bedos Leatherworks, both in Virgina, as well as LaRossa in Massachusetts but personally.
Hope that helps!
-Mike
I just bought this similar pair of old Alden Offshore deck shoes – though not in that nice condition, or white calfskin!
